So the initial post on the Vietnam era Lightweight Rucksack was a little long so I thought I would do the alternate mountings in separate posts. As the war went on and the Lightweight Rucksack saw continued use, troops began mounting it more frequently higher up on the frame. Recon units seem to do this the earliest and the most, but by 1969 most pictures of rucksacks show it higher on the frame. Unless you are carrying large bulky items it is a much more comfortable and streamlined way to use the ruck. One of the benefits to this position is that it is an easy switch. It also provides a hard point to attach heavy items up top like LAWs or mortar rounds. To see how I set this one up click HERE.
